FITO Museum of Traditional Medicine – Saigon, Vietnam
A unique blend of traditional and modern architecture, the FITO museum of traditional medicine is the place to come and delve yourself into the world of Vietnamese potions and remedies. The museum stores and displays nearly 3,000 items relevant to traditional Vietnamese medicine dating back to the Stone Age in its 18 exhibition rooms, including medicinal herbs, tools, and decorative containers as well as books, medicinal charts, journals and carved wooden paintings. It is where over a 50 skillful engravers have worked hard to complete these carved paintings for nearly 3 years.
Unknown to many locals, this hidden gem is humbly nestled in an alleyway of private homes, small businesses, and cafés. Aside from the intensive and unique collection of artifacts, the facade itself is truly a piece of art. The entire building lends the vibe of a traditional Vietnamese Northern home, with a twist of Hue style and Cham style from Central Vietnam and Cambodia. A tour around the FITO museum of traditional medicine brings you to travel back in time to discover the long-standing medical tradition of Vietnam.
