A thriving city which expresses elements of traditional and colonial influences is a fascinating city to visit. Top of the list is the world renowned Shwedagon Pagoda with its lavish genuine gold leaf. Over 70 tons of gold have gone into this structure! There are a number of other pagodas on the agenda, all magnificent and very photogenic.  You also get the chance to get out and about in the countryside and get a feel for the region and meet local people in the streets and markets.

day 1

First, you will take a walk through the city centre to see Yangon’s architectural mix: the historic Post Office, gilded Sule Paya, the heritage Strand Hotel, Maha Bandula Park and the Independence Monument. Then, you will visit the vibrant Little India and Chinatown with numerous street vendors, markets and temples.

In the afternoon, let’s take a look around Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda, housing a 70m long Reclining Buddha image. You may continue to visit green Kandawagyi Park, where you can see the glittering Karaweik barge, a replica of the old royal barge.

Finally, your day will end at the world famous Shwedagon Pagoda, a glittering gold stupa towering 99.4m with a perimeter measuring 432.8m, studded on the pinnacle with priceless gems. To Buddhists, the Golden Shwedagon is the holiest place of worship because it enshrined the sacred relics of the three earlier Buddhas and Eight Hair Relics of Gautama Buddhas, the Supreme Self-Enlightened.

day 2

At the beginning, you will take a 1-hour drive to the quiet town of Thanlyin, formerly Syriam. It was an important Burmese trading centre whist still a colony of the Portuguese during the 16th century. You will drive the tree-lined streets, seeing the main attractions and getting a glimpse of local life.

Then, you will visit the hilltop Kyaik Khauk Pagoda, offering fabulous views of the river and Yangon city skyline, and the ruins of an 18th century Portuguese Church.

To explore the riverside market, let’s take a local boat to Ye Le Paya, set on a tiny island in the middle of the river.

At the end, you will be back to Yangon driving through the longest bridge in Myanmar, connecting Yangon and Thanlyin.

day 3

After breakfast, you will head to the famous Strand Road. A walk along Yangon River would bring you closer to the daily activities of local people at this busy jetty area.

Then, you will visit Botataung Pagoda, where a sacred hair relic of Lord Buddha is enshrined.

At the end, let’s browse through Bogyoke Market, where is formerly known as Scott’s Market, it is considered Yangon’s best market for handicrafts.

Bogyoke Market is closed on Mondays and public holidays so we can switch it between the 3 days depend on your travel time.

Accommodation for today is not included to make it easier for you to connect the trip to the next destinations. Please kindly notice us if you would like to extend the night in Yangon or assist to connect the trip with Bagan, Mandalay or Inle Lake.
